About Me
As I sat in the Gynaecologist's clinic, I was hopeful that I was going to finally understand why my periods were so heavy and painful.
Instead, I was offered the coil and no answers...
Sound familiar?
I am a medical doctor and a trained Creighton Model FertilityCare Practitioner.
One of my favourite subjects at medical school was human physiology. I was (and still am!) fascinated by how the human body works. During my medical training it was striking how little we were taught about restorative methods of managing gynaecological abnormalities and infertility. The emphasis instead was on hormonal suppression of fertility as the go to way of treating gynaecological problems and in-vitro fertilisation as the way to help couples conceive.
I first became interested in natural methods of fertility awareness in medical school as it showed that by using knowledge of reproductive physiology, it was possible to get to the root cause of gynaecological abnormalities and use a holistic, restorative approach for management.
As a patient, I have been to gynaecologists in the NHS who rather than wanting to get to the root of the issues that I had presented with, wanted to start me on hormonal treatment - masking rather than treating the problem. I was offered no natural or restorative alternative and the consultations did not feel very personal. I was forced to seek an alternative route privately and I realised that there was potentially a population of women (like me) who were not being served by the NHS and wanted to go some way to help change that.
I was fortunate enough to do a 1 month attachment in a NaproTechnology Clinic in New York during medical school and was amazed at the caring, tailor-made, holistic approach to fertility and gynaecology that I experienced. I am committed to providing the same for my clients and working in private practice allows me the time and space to offer this.
I am passionate about equipping women and couples with an in-depth knowledge of how their bodies work, thus enabling them to be their own best advocates in making sure they get treatment that seeks to restore their natural physiology rather than to suppress or destroy it.
In my spare time, I enjoy dressmaking, making skin and haircare products, studying the interplay between nutrition and reproduction, learning languages and travelling.
